Our Lady of Sorrows is one of the names given to the Virgin Mary for the suffering she had during the death of her Son, Jesus. Our Lady of Sorrows is represented with one or more swords that pierce her heart and symbolize the sorrows she felt from the prophecy of Simeon to the burial of her son’s body in the Holy Sepulcher. We celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows on September 15th.
